7 Steps to have a Positive Outlook in life

It’s crucial what we feed ourselves. Because that impacts how our inner health would respond. To bring energy to the system, we must eat fresh food. So why we forget this when we are talking about our CPU, i.e. our brain?

Our attitude towards life speaks a lot about our personal and professional behaviour. The mindset that You carry is the primary distinction between a successful and an unsuccessful person. Albert Einstein said, “It’s not that I’m so smart, it’s just that I stay with problems longer.”

Carol Dweck, an American Psychologist, classified this mindset into two types.

1. Fixed Mindset

2. Growth Mindset

People with a fixed mindset as Carol describes needs approval and focuses more on the outcomes. Will I fail or succeed? And how society will judge me? Living up to the expectations, fear of failure and confirmation of their intelligence is of paramount importance.

Besides, people having a growth mindset focuses more on the process. The learnings along the way and working hard isn’t a big deal as they are always curious about the discoveries they’ll make along. They handle errors positively and try to realize their real potential.

What growth mindset does is, it gives you a positive outlook towards life. And you must understand that having a positive outlook doesn’t solve all your problems like magic. What it does is that it helps you manage those challenges and hardships with a positive and productive approach.

So today, let’s discuss seven ways you can bring a positive outlook in your life.

1. Start your day fresh and positive

Have you wondered why some of your days are so heavy and sluggish? The morning routine you follow sets the tone of how the rest of your day will land up. Be grateful every morning that you are alive. You have one more day to give your best. One more day to be appreciative, full of energy and love your dear ones. Positive words impact our Frontal lobe, while negative words increase activities in the amygdala. Use as many as possible because it will boost the energy level for the rest of the day.

2. Maintain a Gratitude Journal

Look for the things that were appreciative throughout the day. It may be a phone call from your loved one, good news or a stranger smiling at you. In short, anything positive will do.

Practising gratitude reduces stress and improves self-esteem even in dark times. Think of all those moments and things that bring you some kind of comfort or happiness. Write down in your journal to feel optimistic and mental peace.

3. Surround yourself with positive people

Having positive people around helps their words sink in and helps you have a positive outlook towards your goals which makes it more achievable. Finding positive people may seem sturdy, try removing negativity from your life. Remember, anything that enters your mindset should be positive and helpful.

4. Embrace your mistakes

No one is perfect. Making mistakes was never wrong, but judging is definitely. Instead of paying attention to why you failed, try focusing on what you learnt. Embracing your imperfections give you self-esteem and a better outlook towards failure.

5. Positive Self-talk

We are always our worst critic which lead us to have a negative opinion of ourselves which affects us psychologically. Negative self-talk is hard to notice. Research suggests people who often have positive self-talk have the mental skills that allow them to solve problems, think differently, and be more efficient at coping with hardships.

6. Have humour as your companion

Laughter is the best antidote against stress, depression and anxiety. It has the power to instantly lighten up the mood and make things seem less arduous. Remember, all your hardships, challenges and efforts will be a part of your great story some years later.

7. Live in the Present

Reflecting on past and planning your future does not mean you sacrifice your present. A lot of thinking can cause anxiety and may lead to wrong decisions. Negativity can stem out of exaggerated imagination or your best potential response in the past. Live in this moment. You may realize your situation is not that worse it seems to be.

Each one of us has our lowest points in our lives. Things may seem impossible to turn around. But a hero is always born out of that situation that motivates you to move, aspire again and succeed. Your brain is your greatest asset. Invest time on it. The returns are exponential.

🙌 Growth mindset develops as one starts believing in himself and the process rather than just outcomes and others' validations.
